It's got to be RG8 style or thicker - there's a flexi replacement for
9913 (which replaced 213 as the best for 2m) - I get mine at the RF connection
(301)-840-5477 in Maryland. I don't know the number for the new flexi cable.

it's the simplest - all the things that can go wrong are in front of you ratherthan in the attic.

Hello fellow DXers,
I have been disappointed at not hearing much activity on 20 meters
lately. That goes for much of the other high frequency bands as well.
I miss hearing good signals coming from Europe especially.
Has anyone else had similar experiences? Does this mean we
have to wait until about 2002 to hear something? Gee, what am I
going to do 'til then?
An idle fist,

Hi,
I am one of those people who are "morsely chalenged". I have tried just about
every legal method to pass the 5pw test. In order for me to learn, I need to
have real QSO's with a real person. At this time I can receive, but I need
several seconds to figure out what each character is. I can send about 5-10wpm,
with some small spelling mistakes.
I am looking for someone to elmer or tutor me by having at least one hour
a week of QSO's with me. It would start out with them sending a character
and waiting for me to acknowledege it and eventually (I hope) working
up to 13wpm.
I would prefer someone who would come to my house, or where I could come to
them. I live in Chestnut Hill, (Northwest Philadelphia, Pa)
You need not have a license, just be able to send and receive code at
at least 5 wpm.
We could also use the telephone, or if you do have a license, 2m, 430, 6m
mcw or cw. I may be able to provide the equipment.
I am willing to trade elemering in theory (novice/tech/general), computers,
custom programming, or if you come to me, cash.
Thanks and 73.

WHAT ARE THE MOST USED 2M FREQUENCIES
Hi there everybody.
I just put a New 2M mobile set up in my Car a Yaesu FT 411.
I am planning to take a trip across several metropolitan regions
and really don't want to be distracted from band scanning by getting
hung up on intermods and carriers and so forth, so I was wondering;
A LONG time ago i saw posted on here a list of the most used 2m
repeater frequencies in the country; Maybe it wasn't on here
or maybe it was on QST. Wherever I remeber it I am sure that such
a list exists out there and I would like to know if anyone
could send it to me.

I remember it being broken into 4 groups:
Class A: 1x2 and 2x1 (eg, W1AA or WA1A)
Class B: 2x2 (eg, WA1AA)
Class C: 1x3 (eg, W1AAA)
Class D: 2x3 (eg, WA1AAA)
Novices get class Ds, Techs and Generals get class Cs, Advanced get
class Bs, and Extras get class As -- IF available for that area. If
not, a call in the next group "down" is issued; e.g, if I pass my
Technician exam in area 9, if N9ZZZ has already been issued (and thus
they are out of class C calls), I will be issued the next class D call
-- probably something like KD9MNP. QST publishes what the "recent"
callsigns in each class have been, including if any groups are full
(class C is full in most areas at this point, if I remember correctly).
Sorry if I'm being an FAQ-echo,

I just received a copy of 'Mobile Ham,' a slick Japanese ham magazine.
In addition to a whole pile of new FM-type rigs that I don't recognize,
they have a two-page spread on a new 50 MHz multimode rig from KenWood.
The TS-60 comes in 10, 25, and 50 watt versions and looks like the
TS-50. I can't read most of the Japenese text, but it appears that
they have taken RX dynamic range seriously.
So... watch for something new on 6 meters (it's about time!)

I was looking through the GOPHER a little while ago and came up with
post where someone has made a MORSE CODE program that runs on UNIX
boxes and its location.
Its located at HANAUMA.STANFORD.EDU <36.51.0.16> morse.shar is the
file name
I have never seen this posted before and according to the post ITS FREE
shareware.

World.std.com has a program called superiormorse.shar in
pub/hamradio/unix/morse. I am working on acquiring more CW programs shortly.
Please feel free to visit the site via gopher, anonymous FTP, World Wide
Web, or any other way you know how to.
Also, the ARRL's info-server files are also available on the site in
pub/hamradio/arrl/Server-files.

No such thing as an AMA sanctioned field. There are AMA Chartered
clubs, and AMA sanctioned events, but no AMA sanctioned fields.

But PLEASE when you want to upgrade your radio, DO NOT put it up
for sale on consignment in a local hobby shop. The hobby dealer
(unless he is a ham) does not care who buys it, ham or not.
Not long ago at our local field, there was a new fellow flying
the coveted black flag on his antenna (ham band xmitter). I strolled
over to have a closer look and identify myself to the new flyer.
After asking a few questions and discovering that not only was the
fellow not a ham, but also did not know he was on a ham band. I
mentioned that he should probably should not be using that radio
and may want to return it. Well, I found out what TEMPER really
can be. I dont think Ill do that again!

Your probably not going to have too much luck with VHF/UHF equipment for
reliable communication. Alaska is fairly desolute up north with villages and
sites sparsely located. I would recommend an HF rig. If it's summer probably
stick with freqs on 15 or 20 meters, if winter, stick with freqs in the low
bands (And bring warm gloves, -60, -70 is not uncommon!).

Heathkit SB100 with AC power supply, speaker and manual.
This rig works well on 80 and 40 meters; the driver or finals oscillate
on 15 meters. It does not work on the Novice/Tech. part of 10 meters.
This rig was loaned to Doug Reneker, N9UIJ, who used it mostly on 40
meters, and made plenty of contacts from Illinois with it, as far away
as Havana Cuba.
This is an all-tube radio, 1965-vintage. The manual is very detailed,
and if you have the time, you could probably get it working on all
bands.
I will sell it for $100. If you are in Chicago area, you can pick it
up in Naperville for $75.

Well I'd be intrgued to see anything by Tokyo Hi Power. I have a 432 amp

never had any manuals and would never answer their phone. Eventually I got

VK2 Council meeting, 17 Dec 93
Here is a report of a Council meeting held at Amateur Radio House
on 17th December, just before the scheduled ATV meeting. The
Council meeting was requested by at least four Councillors (al-
though only one such request is necessary to hold same).
Present were: R.Yorston VK2CAN, C.Miranda VK2TCM, R.Henley
VK2ZIG, T.Mills VK2ZTM, T.Ryeland VK2UX, R.Harrison VK2ZTB, and
J.Kentwell VK2XBR; neither J.Simon VK2XGJ nor J.Robinson VK2XY
was in attendance. The meeting was chaired by the President,
Terry VK2UX.
A motion of "No Confidence" in the Divisional Secretary (VK2ZTB)
was moved and seconded, and was hotly debated. Many points of
order, including at least one Motion of Dissent, were raised;
they were ignored or overruled by the Chairman. Both the mover
and the seconder spoke at length for the reasons for moving such
a motion of no confidence; the Secretary and another Councillor
spoke against the motion.
At some time, proxies were produced (allegedly from VK2XGJ and
VK2XY); their legitimacy was questioned as, amongst other things,
it was not clear whether these proxies had been lodged for the
required four hours before the meeting, or whether they had been
witnessed etc. Again, various points of order were raised and
ignored.
The meeting adjourned and reconvened somewhat later. Discussion
continued, and when it became clear that a vote was forthcoming,
the President raised the matter of the proxies, and attempted to
declare them valid. Again, there was some discussion on whether
the proxies had been delivered in time, and whether they had been
witnessed, etc. Again, various points of order were raised
(including at least one Motion of Dissent), and again were either
ignored or ruled to be out of order. A motion that the motion be
put was ignored.
Finally, following a motion that the proxies be declared invalid,
the Chairman adjourned the meeting (whilst the aforesaid Motion
was still upon the table) - ignoring the protests of other Coun-
cil members - and the President and the Secretary departed amidst
expressions of derision from the audience.
